Snow in Hakodate City, Hokkaido, Japan

We had a heavy snow in Hakodate City last winter. I had to remove and dig the snow with a spade everyday to make a road for my family. And a my friend and I also removed a lot of snow from a house nereby where two women live in. One woman is fiftyeight and another woman is eighty three years old. It is very impossible for them to dig and remove snow with spades.

To remove snow took us more than two hours and it was a good exercise for us because both of us are a little bit diabetic. For diabetics, lack of exercise will bring them more serious problems. So both of us willingly removed snow from the woemen's back garden to outside night and day.

See you,

Flower of Hakodate City

My home town Hakodate City is facing both sea and mountains. We have four seasons. I took a photo of a flower shown here in the autumn of Hakodate last year but I did not know this flower's name.

Bluefin tuna fishing

Bluefin tuna fishing started at Tsugaru Channel in the vicinity of the southern part of Hokkaido Island of Japan. Fishing gear to catch bluefin tuna are longlines and trolling.

Hokkaidoan fishermen now enjoying a good catch everyday. This fishing will end in the end of the year 2006 by fishermen's agreement to prevent overcatch of bluefin tuna. Then they will start the same fishing in the begining day of July, 2007.

On the other hand, a university of Hakodate City is carrying out an open seminar to citizen. One of the seminar topics is "Penguin". An instructor explained us why penguines prefer diving to flying. He said penguines found more food in the water than in the sky so penguines changed their wings to fins to swim instead of flying in the sky. See you,

Ocean Fishing

Good day everybody! and welcome to my blog.

I would like to introduce myself.
My name is Urashima Sentarow(Mr.), a japanese consultant on ocean fishing. When I was a captain, I had been fishing in the Oceans (Bering Antarctic, Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic), catching pelagic and demersal species of fish by trawlers and tuna by longliners and small-sized icebergs by trawlers.

My home town is Hakodate City on Hokkaido Island, located in the most northern part of Japan. Hakodate City is connected with the main island by the longest underwater tunnnel in the world. Also by ferry boats and airplanes. And this city has an international airport.

My home town has Catholic churches, an Orthodox church, Trappist, Chinese temple and univercities. Also we have fishing ports and a fish-auction markat.

From now on, I would like to tell you stories of my home town, my island and my way of life and fishing. Thank you for your time and have a nice day. -from Urashima-
